Police sets up helpline: SRTC orders probe

SRINAGAR, July 16: State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) has ordered an inquiry into the road accident near Ramsoo in which several Amarnath yatris died while travelling in a vehicle owned by the corporation.

“An in-house inquiry committee has been constituted to look into the circumstances that led to this tragic accident involving an SRTC bus carrying Amarnath yatris,” Mir Afroze Ahmad, Managing Director SRTC said. He said the inquiry committee has been asked to submit its report within two days.

Meanwhile, police has set up helpline for any queries and information about the yatris injured in a road accident on Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

A police spokesman said here this evening that for any queries and information regarding the injured persons in the road accident of Amarnath yatra vehicle at National Highway Banihal, please contact SDPO Zadibal on 9419000200, SHO Soura on 9596770587, SHO Karan Nagar on 9596770527 or Police Control Room Kashmir on 0194-2506504-07.

Police said 25 injured yatris have been identified. Eight are admitted in SKIMS here and 17 in SMGS Jammu.

As has been reported that a vehicle bearing registration number JK02Y-0594 met with an accident at Banihal in which 16 pilgrims died and 27 were injured. The injured have been referred to SKIMS and SMHS hospital for further treatment.
