JKCA ‘wash your hands of’ Ansari, Mehboob, Rouf

JAMMU, July 19: In a dramatic move, the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) has distanced itself from powerful individuals and veterans in the Association, the trio of Minister for Sports, Imran Raza Ansari, former bureaucrat, Mehboob Iqbal and Abdul Rouf.
Till recently, all these persons were holding important positions in the ‘controversial’ sports body in the state. While Imran Ansari was president his party leader and ex-J&K skipper, Mehboob Iqbal was chairman of the cricket body in the state. Another senior office bearer having long association with JKCA, Abdul Rouf was holding the post of treasurer.
The sensational revelations have been made by the JKCA in its list of office bearers submitted with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), recently.
Among the names reflected in the list of office bearers, forwarded to the BCCI, included that of general secretary, Iqbal Ahmed Shah and joint secretaries (Shibun Lal Trakroo-Kashmir and Desh Rattan Dubey- Jammu) as also vice chairman (Kashmir wing), Javid Ahmad Kitab.
It has been reliably learned that all these three individuals do not fall in the list of qualified office bearers, following the guidelines of the Lodha Committee recommendations.
While Imran Raza can no more be an office bearer of the cricket body in any form, the reason being he holds the portfolio of a Minister, Mehboob Iqbal has been debarred from holding any position in the JKCA because he has already completed the number of terms allowed in the new rules of the BCCI.
Similarly, Abdul Rouf has already crossed the age of an eligible person to become an office bearer of the sports body.
“Since the BCCI has become very strict with regard to its recommendations, the JKCA, as per the list of office bearers submitted with the parent body, virtually disowned the three powerful individuals,” a former office bearer of the JKCA told.
