SKUAST-TAJ starts signature campaign for rechristening agricultural varsity

JAMMU, July 19: SKUAST-TAJ members during signature campaign for Jammu Agricultural University
Jammu, July 19: SKUAST- Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) started signature campaign in support of rechristening of SKUAST-J as Jammu Agricultural University (JAU). President SKUAST-TAJ, Dr. Vikas Sharma informed that under his supervision, the office bearers of teaching association have been assigned the duty to carry out this signature campaign at Faculty of Agriculture / Faculty of Basic Sciences at Main Campus Chatha and Faculty of Veterinary Sciences at R.S. Pura Campus whereas under the supervision of Dr. Vinod Gupta, Chairman JAU Committee, executive members of SKUAST-TAJ are directed to complete the job of signature campaign at Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and Research Stations located in far flung areas of Jammu division. Dr. Vikas further informed that very soon members of civil society, farming community and politicians / intellectuals of Jammu region will be involved in this process of assigning separate identity to agricultural varsity as people of Jammu still doesn't emotionally attached with the nomenclature assigned to this University and they have high aspirations that they shall be identified by the name that itself represents all the cultures and values prevailing in their Jammu. “The detailed document regarding the subject supported by more than one thousand signatories will be submitted to Deputy Chief Minister, J&K very soon for further necessary action.” said TAJ President Dr. Vikas
Dr. Vivak M Arya, General Secretary of the association stressed that the common name of two varsities in J&K (SKUAST-J & SKUAST-K) is also creating a lot of controversy and confusions among the masses and rechristening of SKUAST-J as Jammu Agricultural University will be a good confidence measure for the people of Jammu, who have struggled a lot for this Agricultural University.
