Appeals govt to expedite rescue, relief operations

DODA, July 20: Expressing great shock & grief over the loss of human lives, damages caused to public property and loss of live stocks, General Secretary J&KPCC and former R&B Minister Abdul Majid Wani and MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori today asked the district administration to gear up the rescue and relief operations.
Till now only six dead bodies have been recovered from debris of damaged houses and shops in Thathri town and moreover Doda Kishtwar Highway is also blocked due to the damaged roads. Apart from expediting rescue and search operations in Thathri town.
The government authorities should also depute special rescue and relief teams to Gugara, Joura & adjoining areas of Kahra Bhadarwah, which also experienced cloud brust in the wee hours today and till now losses in these areas are unassisted and unreported.
Majid Wani appealed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to immediately rush the state's top officers to the areas where cloud bursts happened so as to assess the intensity of losses occurred and start the rehabilitation process simultaneously.
Apart from this, army helicopters should be sent around Thathri and other affected areas to search & save those injured and dead.
Majid Wani made an appeal to the Red Cross Society and other voluntary organizations to participate in the relief operations to provide every possible help to the affected inhabitants of these cloud bursts affected remote areas.
Expressing concern over the damage caused, Saroori said, “It is a matter of sorrow that due to the flash floods many houses got damaged and they should not lose hope as we firmly stand by the people of the affected areas.” He further said he is personally monitoring the situation and added that sub-district administrations, disaster management teams and security personnel have already been asked to reach the sites to carry out rescue works and ensure safety of locals.
