MUMBAI, July 21: Sri Lanka's fast bowling coach Champaka Ramnayake has resigned a week before the commencement of the first Test match between Sri Lanka and India, scheduled to commence at Galle on July 26.
Confirming this, he says, "Yes, I have resigned and tendered my letter to the Sri Lanka Cricket (board) on Thursday".
"I will be working with the SLC till 31st of this month but my services will not be available to the host team for the first Test". "I will be working with the board till then", he clarified.
Without elaborating more on his resignation, he said, "I have had enough here. Have few more options but yet to be committed to any. I shall explore my options very soon".
It was speculated that the 52-year-old fast bowler Ramanayake would join with the Bangladesh team, where they already have a West Indies' bowling coach (Courtny Walsh).
SLC may approach Chaminda Vaas to replace Ramanayake. "I can't say more at this stage", he added.
Interestingly, the Sri Lankan batsman Thilan Samarweera's contract with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not been reviewed.
