Amid heat wave, Met predicts light rainfall

SRINAGAR, July 27: While the scorching hot weather conditions continued in Kashmir on Thursday, the state met department has predicted light rainfall in Kashmir valley during next 24 hours which is likely to provide a relief from the prevalent heat wave.
According to the officials at met department light to moderate rainfall may occur at most of the places across the valley during next 24 hours.
During past few days valley has been witnessing rise in in mercury and humidity which has resulted in acute heat wave and humid weather conditions in Kashmir. Met office revealed that the precipitation during next 24 hours was likely to fetch some relief from the acute humid weather conditions.
“The high percentage of humidity present in air has added to the hot weather conditions in Kashmir.
There are predictions of light rain and thundershowers during next 24 hours in valley which may provide some respite. Rainfall may occur at few places over the state of Jammu and Kashmir. ” Met spokesperson said.
The officials at Met department revealed that the maximum temperatures in valley have been around 31 and 32 degrees Celsius with extreme humid conditions making it highly inconvenient for people across valley.
“Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 31.7 degrees Celsius and a low of 20.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday. During past few days the maximum temperatures in valley are settling around 31 up to 32 degrees Celsius,” spokesperson at Met department said.
The officials at Met department said that light rainfall occurred at several isolated places along hilly areas in valley during previous evening. They said there were predictions of rainfall along with thundershowers in both Kashmir and Jammu division.
“Light rain/thundershower may occur over isolated places across Kashmir valley during next 24 hours. Maximum & Minimum temperatures will be around 29 degre Celsius and 19 degrees Celsius respectively.
Light Rain/thundershowers may also occur in Jammu region. Maximum &Minimum temperatures in Jammu will be around 30 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively," Met official said.
The officials revealed that Leh town in Ladakh area recorded a maximum temperature of 29.7 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
