State Sport Climbing Championship from Aug 17
JAMMU, Aug 8: 17th J&K State Sport Climbing Championship shall be organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K in collaboration with Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Luxmi Puram, Bantalab Jammu from August 17 to 18.

About 200 climbers from various districts of the state including Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Samba, Anantnag, Srinagar,Badgam and Ganderbal besides Pulwama, Poonch, Rajouri and Doda shall vie for honors in the two day competition. In case the participation exceeds 200 climbers, preliminary rounds of certain categories for Jammu district shall be conducted a day earlier.

The competitions shall be held in eight categories of Men, Women (born in 2000,1999 and earlier), Boys, Girls (born in 2001, 2002 & 2003), Sub Jr. Boys / Girls (born in 2004 and 2005) and Mini Boys / Girls (born in 2006 and after). Except for Mini Boys and Girls who shall participate in ‘lead climbing’ only, participants in all other categories shall compete both in ‘lead climbing’ and ‘speed climbing.’

Whereas a national judge in sport climbing Mitra Ghosh from Delhi shall be the President of the Jury, another technical official from Delhi Paras Verma, a national Route Setter also from Delhi shall be the Chief Route Setter of the competition. Other technical and logistic support shall be provided by Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, New Delhi. The championship has been sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
