KEA protests against moves to abolish Art 35-A
Majid Nabi
SRINAGAR, Aug 12: Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) an umbrella body of various trade unions Saturday hit streets to protest moves to abolish Article 35 (A).

Shouting anti government slogans, scores of activists of KEA led by Farooq Ahmad Dar staged demonstrations at city centre Lal Chowk against what they termed attempts to change the demography of the state by repealing Article 35 (A).

Protesting traders warned the government of dire consequences in case it adopts on ground its plans of abolishing the Article which provides special status to the state.

“We will not hesitate to sacrifice our lives in safeguarding our rights; I would like to warn India not to fiddle with Article 35 (A) as the move may trigger greater revolt in the state which will unnerve the very matrix of the union government,” KEA Chairman warned.

He also advised the state government to play an effective role in safeguarding rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir other than adding colours to the nefarious designs of vicious elements hell-bent on disturbing the peaceful environment of the state.

“Government should support people and play an effective role to safeguard their rights. Article 370 is a shield which protects this state. We will not let anyone tinker with the special status conferred to the state by the constitution,” he added.
