NIA being used as weapon to suppress people: CSCC
SRINAGAR, Sep 11: Civil Society Coordination Committee (CSCC) today claimed that National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been used as a weapon to ‘repress’ people from raising concern against attempts to abrogate Article 35 (A).

Addressing a joint press conference here, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, Jagmohan Singh Raina and Ghulam Nabi Dar said that Government of India has a special political arrangement with the State with constitutional protection under Article 370 and 35(A) of the Constitution of India as safeguards.

“NIA has been used as a weapon by BJP led central government to suppress voices against abrogation of Article 35 (A). Since India has signed special agreement with the state, it is duty bound to protect Article 35(A) of the constitution,” they added

The members said that government of India is duty bound to protect special status of Jammu and Kashmir conferred to it by the constitution of India till the dispute is resolved as per the wishes and aspirations of the people.

“In terms of the previous decisions, the Civil Society Coordination members in order to seek larger consensus for maintaining the Article 35/A and to meet to all the legal and political challenges thrown to it by the adversaries, have met political heads of various organizations who have representations in the Legislative Assembly” said CSCC members.

They said all these organizations are in principle agreement to protect the Article 35(A) and meet all the challenges thrown to it either at political level or at legal arena and have pledged their full cooperation to the civil society in preparing strong legal defense before the Supreme Court of India.

They said that the visit of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to Jammu and Kashmir is increasing apprehensions instead of hopes as Kashmir issue is not law and order problem or economic issue which could be solved by state force and economic packages.

“India and Pakistan are under moral, political and diplomatic obligation to resolve the conflict in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir as conflict is consuming life, honour and property of the people. Jammu and Kashmir and the conflict is compounded by the machinations which are heading towards a tragic human history,” they said.
