‘AI ignorant about pellet hit photojournalist’
SRINAGAR, Sept 13: Amnesty International India today was unable to furnish details about working photojournalist Zuhaib Humza, who is on the verge of losing his eyesight after being hit by pellets during 2016 uprising.

Pertinent to mention here that pellets damaged Zuhaib’s eye seriously while he was covering a protest in Rainawari area of the old city last year.

Amnesty International, instead, expressed ignorance about the plight of Zuhaib who at present is being treated at SMHS hospital for serious eye injury due to pellets.

Responding to a reply as to whether Amnesty has ever tried to reach out to Zuhaib to know his plight after the incident, the human rights watch dog said that they never visited Zuhaib nor have any adequate information about him.

“We do have information about some journalist including one from north Kashmir, but we never visited Zuhaib accept for calling him twice,’’ said Zahoor Ahmad, member at Amnesty International who conducted field research on pellet victims in Kashmir.

It may be in place to mention that the young photojournalist Zuhaib also lost his job and has been sitting in a corner of a dark room at his residence at Rainawari ever since the gory incident took place.

“There is nothing to regret about as what happened to me was destined. My parents, friends and relatives use to encourage me. I never give up and will fight till I regain my sight,” Zuhaib said.
