Sports events will help in reducing militancy related issues in Kashmir: ADGP Armed

JAMMU, Sep 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Police under its Civic Action Programme (CAP) is organizing a state Jashn-e-Dal and Shikara Race-2017 at Nehru ark Dal Lake Srinagar.The event, which will start Sep 18 will continue for two days.
While announcing the event, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Armed Police, L. Mohanti said that the event has been endeavour of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to maintain good relations with the public and over the years it has been organizing various events under CAP to achieve this goal.
ADGP also said that the sports event that are being organized by the JKP will help in reducing the militancy related issues in Kashmir. “Obviously, the sportsman never indulge in bad things and they only focus on their good career,” he said while replying to a question on the sidelines of the presser.
He also said that the sports events will also help in reducing the drug abuse here. “The state police is trying its every bid to eradicate drug abuse. The sports event at the same time being organized by the JKP will also help in reducing the drug abuse in Kashmir,” he said.
ADGP Armed Police told reporters that the Police is keen on organizing various sports activities for the youth in the Valley. “Event like these generate tremendous interest among the youth, which in turn help in channelizing the young minds in a positive direction,” he said
Announcing the Jashn-e-Dal and Shikara Race-2017, Mohanti informed that various kinds of events will be organized from Sep 18 to 20, which include, Shikara Race (men), Swimming liong distance (Open for men), Swimming short distance (for men), Swimming short distance (for boys), Dragon Boat Race (for men), Dragon Boat Race (for women), Dragon Boat Race (for boys), Dragon Boat Race (for girls), Canoe Polo (open for men), Kayaking (for men), Kayaking (for women), Canoeing (for men), Canoeing (for women), water polo and water ski.
He said that the event open for all and people interested in participating can register themselves at the Registration counter, established at the Nehru Park Dal Lake Srinagar.
The main attraction for the participants would be the Cash Prizes that are up for the grabs under various categories. “An amount to the tune of Rs 3.05 lakhs would be distributed among the winners in various events in addition to individual trophies, medals and certificates,” he said.
