IT absurd asumptions all are tax defaulters

Dear Editor,
As Press reports the Income tax authorities are now targeting thousands of individuals including senior citizens who have interest income from fixed deposits of Rupees 5 lakh or more- but probably not paying tax. This is most absurd thinking. There may be few of such persons but treating all tax payers including senior citizens as tax defaulters is a matter of shame for the government. Perhaps this is first time in the history of world on income tax where such a low thinking of government is found for its honest and tax abiding citizens. Recently it was made a policy matter that senior citizens will be well treated with respect and unnecessary notices of any kind will not be sent to them. Was it a sham?
Also, as per tax provisions some of notices to enquire income escaped cannot be issued just on suspicions grounds, there should be valid reasons like some proof of income escaped in tax returns. It is better for tax department to issue notices for any tax default only on specific cases found of tax not paid -with valid proofs only and stop issuing notices just on absurd assumptions like citizens are not declaring full income and not paying taxes. If government will not stop sending such absurd notices it will be a tax terrorism for most of honest and innocent tax payers / citizens.
Also, Rupees 5 Lakhs is a very low figure to survive in the present inflationary times prevailing in the country. Tax evaders must be booked but think of rich or big citizens who earns in Crores only! And refrain sending / issuing notices just on absurd assumptions -have a valid proof for issuance of such notices to tax payers.
Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) already takes well care of this aspect as its limits are very low -unrealistic with a low Rupee value in the market.
Unnecessarily tax payers / citizens are not horrified from income tax department-there are valid reasons-experiences by almost all tax payers and citizens for such an uncalled for behaviour and treatment to tax payers by the department.
