World Postal Day

Kashmir Times. Dated: 10/9/2017 11:53:49 PM

Dear Editor,
9th October each year is World Post Day. In 1969 Universal Postal Congress- Tokyo started to mark anniversary of Universal Postal Union's (UPU) created in 1874 to bring awareness in people’s day today personal and business lives. For countries participating in the UPU International Letter-Writing Competition, national winners are often honoured on 9 October. With changed times the importance of postal services across the world is reduced to a minimum level. Also writing letters are now to a minimum levels-Mails, SMSs and social media are now in vogue. Handwritten letters are now a history.
The courier services have almost rendered postal services in India redundant. But the fact is that unless one hires best courier service, the delivery is not certain and there is much delay. People feel that it is a sure delivery within shortest time but that is not true unless one hires the reputed firms which are very few and they charge heavily for its services. Many people have stopped it and are opting for Speed Post services of the postal department.
