Gunmen loot Rs 1.98 lakh from bank branch in Shopian

ANANTNAG, Oct 13: In a second incident in two days in the region gunmen on Friday looted a Jammu and Kashmir bank branch in southern Shopian district.
Police official and local sources said that three men carrying guns at round 11.30 AM entered into the bank at Ratnipora Shopian and decamped with one lakh eighty nine thousand rupees.
"The gunmen pointing their guns towards bank officials rushed to the cash counter and took away the cash," they said.
A police officer blamed the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants for bank robbery. "With the help of CCTV footage and other investigation we have been able to identify the militants involved in bank robbery," the officer said.
He identified the militants as Zubair Ahmad Turray, Mohammad Abas Bhat and Ishfaq Ahmad Thokar.
All the the militants, police officer said, are locals and belong to Hizb.
Pertinently this is the second incident of bank robbery in last 24 hours. Gunmen on Thursday had looted five Lang rupees from bank branch in Marhama village of Bijbehara in neighboring Anantnag district. Few months back bank authorities had stopped cash transaction at various and branches which had been declared sensitive by police in Pulwama and Shopian districts.
