Residents in several areas form groups for night patrolling

SRINAGAR, Oct 17: Where as the incidents of braid chopping continue unabated across Kashmir valley, the fear psychosis continues to prevail among people especially women folk.
The growing incidents of braid chopping have increased panic and fear across Kashmir valley as the incidents continue to be reported from different parts of the valley every single day.
On Tuesday around three incidents of braid chopping were reported from North and Central Kashmir. The people blamed government and police for failing to trace the culprits and crack the mystery.
The residents of different areas staged protest demonstrations against braid chopping incidents in various parts of Kashmir on Tuesday as several incidents were reported throughout the day.
The residents in several areas of Srinagar revealed they were living in constant fear due to rise and spread of the incidents of braid chopping across Srinagar. They said there was immense fear among women due to rise in the incidents each passing day.
In several areas the residents have formed groups to patrol the localities during night.
"We have formed small groups of youth who remain awake during night and patrol the locality. There is a lot of panic among residents because police has not been able to nab the culprits," residents of Aloocha Bagh area revealed.
"The fear has groped our daughters who do not want to go out without the company of their elders. It is awful that authorities are not able to do anything in this matter," they said.
The incidents of braid chopping have also been reported from southern and northern parts of Kashmir valley during past one month.
In several localities of Hazratbal area also residents have formed groups who patrol the lanes during night time.
"There is a lot of panic in the area. Girls are threatened and depressed. It is not that they are not safe outside, the incidents have occurred inside homes which is more worrying," a group of residents of new colony Hazratbal said.
They said, "Youngsters in the locality patrol along colony roads during night time. What else are we supposed to do. There is no protection. "
On Tuesday one more incidents of braid chopping was reported from Baramulla, Kupwara and Srinagar.
While the incidents have increased, the mystery behind the braid chopping continues as the culprits have not been traced yet.
According to official sources braids of around 105 women have been chopped off mysteriously by unidentified persons in different parts of Kashmir valley including Srinagar.
Though the police claims to have made efforts to crack the matter, braid cutting incidents continue to remain a mystery.
Police has also announced a cash reward of Rs six lakhs for providing any relevant information regarding the matter.
