An official said Aijaz Ahmad Lone, a teacher by profession, was found dead under mysterious conditions near Lar Maadan Stadium in Wathoo area today morning.
Lone, he said, was a resident of Gatipora village of the district. Reports added that Lone had left his house in Gatipora last night and did not return. Some reports said a note, apparently left by the militants, was found on his body along with a cell phone. The note in Urdu, had accused the slain for the killing of three militants.
Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants Zahid Mir of Ganowpora, Asif Ahmad Pal of Kathokalan and Irfan Abdullah Ganai of Heff village of Shopian were killed in a gunfight in Gatipora on October 9.
Lone, who was a teacher at Kathalan middle school, lived in the vicinity of the encounter site in Gatipora. “Zahid and Asif belonged to Hizb while Irfan was affiliated with LeT,” a police official had said. Police in the district, however, maintained that Lone was an over ground worker of the insurgents and was killed owing to infighting.
