’Withdraws security from my Jammu residence’

JAMMU, Oct 20: Senior Congress leader and former R&B Minister Abdul Majid Wani Friday castigated the state government for withdrawing security from his residence in Jammu.
In a statement, Wani said he played an important role in supporting the nationalist forces in whole erstwhile Doda district during the days when militancy was at its peak in the Chenab Valley region.
“I not only supported the nationalist forces but also succeeded in maintaining peace and harmony among Hindus and Muslims, especially during the 2008 Amarnath row. The whole of J&K was burning, but Doda maintained peace and communal harmony with the efforts and personal influence of Abdul Majid Wani and his father Late Khawaja Ghulam Ahmad Wani, who himself was seriously injured in a militants’ attack, during the peak militancy days in 1995 and had to be airlifted first to the Military Hospital Satwari and then remained under treatment in Delhi for months together,” Wani said.
He said apart from this, their whole family business was badly damaged, as well as, their number of houses, other properties in Doda district and in Srinagar was burnt out by the militants.
“This was duty of the security reviewing agencies in J&K to go through all these records, before taking the biased and one sided decision taken on behest of some vested interests,” he said.
This shall further damage the already deteriorating law and order situation not only in Kashmir valley, but also in Chenab Valley region, as the staunch supporters of the nationalist forces like him will be forced to keep a silence and also stop them from making mass contact in tough and hilly terrains of the Chenab Valley and speaking openly against the militants and other anti-nationalist forces, which are otherwise in dormancy stage and waiting for main stream politicians like him to get weakened up and restrained not to reach people in remotely situated regions.
Expressing his shock and annoyance over the decision of the state government in withdrawing security at his residence in Jammu, Abdul Majid Wani said that the decision is biased and against the main stream leaders, who along with their families are being made vulnerable to anti national forces under a mischievous design.
He made an appeal to Mehbooba Mufti Chief Minister of J&K to immediately intervene into this serious issue and change the decision of the state security review agency and also to review the security and a number of police personnel provided to the police officers in their residences posted either in non-operational zones or in civil/ traffic or other such wings of J&K Police.
He further alleged the decision to withdraw security from his residence is a move "reeks of bias" and has made political leaders like him and his family members "soft targets" and "sitting ducks" for the terrorists.
Wani further said the governments are not merely run by launching political vendetta against the political opponents but the major government decisions and policies need to be framed only in close consultations and taking opposition political parties leaders into confidence.
