13 army jawans injured in Banihal accident; 6 critical

BANIHAL, Nov 8: Thirteen army men were injured, among them six sustained critical injuries, when their vehicle in which they were travelling met with an accident on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Rattanbass Banihal on Wednesday.
According to reports, a Mine Protection Vehicle MPV (Casper) of 12 RR met with an accident when it was heading towards ROP camp of 12 RR located on National Highway near Chambalwas. “When the ill-fated vehicle reached near a four-lane bridge construction site at Rattanbass, about 3 kilometers short from Banihal, the driver of the Casper lost his control over the vehicle and it skidded off the road into a deep gorge,” the police said.
Among 13 injured jawans, six sustained serious injuries. The injured were identified as Naib Subedar Ratia Raina, Sepoy Dasrat, Sepoy Ganshyam, Daleep Kumar, S A Khan, Shiban, Jeevan Singh, Suren Singh, Mandeep Singh, Sanjeev, Anil Kumar, Raju and Yamandeep Singh of 12 RR. Majority of them suffered fractures. Seriously injured jawans were air lifted to Military Hospital Udhampur for treatment.
Rest of them were shifted in ambulances from the facility to Udhampur Base Hospital.
Dozens of labourers working on an under-construction four-lane bridge had a narrow escape as the vehicle rolled down the road.
