‘Sport climbing Boulder to be come up in Panthal‘
JAMMU, Nov 12: “A standard size sport climbing Boulder shall soon come up in the premises of Amba Kids Home (school), Panthal in Reasi”.

This was stated by the Principal of the School Ashwani Katoch in a meeting with the Secretary, Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee Ram Khajuria who happens to be the General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K also.

The proposed boulder 12ft high and 16ft wide with diamonds is likely to be completed by a Delhi based firm within a period of one month and shall be made available for practice to the state climbers who have been selected in the North Zone Sport Climbing team for participation in the National climbing competition scheduled to be held at Indore from December 27 to 30. Incidentally, it shall be the first such climbing infrastructure in the state

It is worth mentioning here that 8 state climbers have been selected in the North Zone team out of which 5 shall be competing in the bouldering competition also besides lead and speed climbing. The availability of a boulder at Amba Kids Home, Panthal shall definitely go a long way in improving climbers’ bouldering skills and enable them to perform better in the national competition.

While expressing gratitude to the Principal of the school Ashwani Katoch for agreeing to raise the much needed climbing infrastructure in the school campus Ram Khajuria promised to organize a number of competitions including a North Zone Bouldering Competition at this infrastructure in near future.

It is pertinent to mention that Amba Kids Home has been regularly participating in district and state climbing competitions for the last about 10 years and many of its students have represented the state in the North Zone Competitions and have done creditably at that level. The school has also produced a number of champions in fencing and some other sports.
