SRINAGAR, Nov 12: The month-long budget session is likely to be held in the first week of January in this winter capital of the state.
“The government has decided to hold business session likely in first week of January,” Kavinder Gupta, Speaker Legislative Assembly told media in Jammu.
He said the complete summer session could not be held in Srinagar due to interruptions by the opposition over GST implementation in the state and added, “Budget session in Jammu shall be of 30 to 35 days.”
The convening of budget session in January is also aimed at meeting the constitutional deadline as no full-fledged session held in the last six months.
In June, the government convened a special session of the assembly to discuss the GST Bill. However, the session was adjourned due to the uproar caused by the opposition over the new tax regime. Only obituary references were taken up in the one-day session.
Later again a special session was called for passage of GST Bill and was adjourned after the passage of law. The two houses were in session for just a few days.
