Soz concerned over thrashing in Tihar
KT NEWS SERVICE
SRINAGAR, Dec 1: Congress leader and former union minister Saifuddin Soz expressed serious concern over the increasing incidents of thrashing of Kashmiri prisoners in Tihar jail and vehemently condemned the Delhi police for it brutality.

In a statement here today, Soz said, “Delhi Police has shown the extreme poverty of its imagination and the incident that occurred in Tihar Jail recently should serve it as a warning to set its house in order.”

Quoting Advocate M.S. Khan, who holds brief for many of the inmates, Soz that Delhi High Court report has proved the fact that the criminals in the jail blew a siren and gathered at barracks C & F and thrashed the inmates. The Delhi High Court report established the fact that 18 persons including some Kashmiris were totally innocent.

The Congress leader called it “unfortunate” that one of the 18 innocent persons, who were thrashed, included Syed Shahid Yousuf, whom he termed as “a political prisoner”.

He described the incident as a callous disregard of duty by the Delhi Police which, he said, is duty- bound to look after the inmates in Tihar Jail.

Soz also called upon the J&K Government to respond to this situation, in full measure, and seek an explanation from the concerned. “What happened at Tihar also shows the Ministry of Home Affairs in poor light as the obnoxious incident occurred close to its nose,” he further added.
