JAMMU, Dec 5: Partiality, bias, inefficiency and perfunctory behavior are the hallmarks of District Youth Sports Services deptt to Govt of J&K.
This kind of behaviour is going on abated and unchecked since many years. If we have such uncouth people at the helm of affairs, can we really complain why our state is not doing well at national level? The School Nationals are being hosted by the state at Jammu starting 11 Dec 2017.
Besides, normal preparation, the selection of the team should have been the priority agenda for DYSS. As a run up to the event, Divisional level Inter-District Football Tournament was held in Poonch followed by Inter-Division level competition in Baramulla in September 2017. The case in question pertains to Mohd Rumman Chak of JK Public School, Kunjwani. He represented Jammu District and performed exceedingly well.
At Poonch, he scored nine goals in three matches including two hat-tricks and was declared the Best Player of the Tournament. In Baramulla, he continued displaying his superior play and was informed by one of the selectors that he had been selected to represent the State in Nationals. As a practice, the selectors inform the players individually without giving anything in writing. The same was done in case of Rumman Chak, also. Last week Rumman was informed by another player from Poonch that the selected players were already practicing in training camp being held at Nagrota.
On enquiring from DYSS Jammu Office, it was revealed that Rumman's name did not figure among the selected players. It was a shock and disappointment for a very promising player, particularly when he had already been informed of his selection.
In the past also, DYSS has been totally irresponsible and insensitive towards the merit, caliber and potential of the players. In 2010-11, no team was sent for Subroto Cup Football Tournament, held in Delhi only because no player was sent from Kashmir although Jammu team was ready in all respects. In another case, unfortunately no girl has been sent from Jammu District for Girls Schools Nationals (Football), the whole team comprises Kashmir players.
Above incidents pertain to Football only. These kind of unethical practices are going on in all other sports also. When will these people understand that we are doing irreparable damage to the sports in the state as a whole and also finishing careers of many promising players? DYSS needs to introspect and ask these questions from their own conscience if they have any players?
