2 arrested with demonetized currency in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Jan 7: Police today claimed to have arrested two persons and recovered demonetised currency of Rs 50 lakhs from their possession in the city on Sunday.
The arrests were made during a surprise naka checking carried out by a police party of police post Baghiyas led by sub-inspector Aijaz Ahmad, police said.
They identified the arrested as Nazir Ahmad Rather, son of Mohammad Ramzan Rather, a resident of Syedpora-Rafiabad in Baramulla district and Akeel Ahmad Khan, son of Ali Mohammad Khan, a resident of Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), presently residing in Baramulla.
The sources said the accused persons will be presented before the competent court for judicial determination.
The source said cognizance was taken under the specified bank notes (cessation of liabilities) Act, 2017 and further investigation taken up.
