Shubdeep of Kathua is new State Chess president
JAMMU, Jan 8: Young 17 year old, Shubdeep Sharma of distict Kathua emerged as new State champion in the State Chess Championship, organised by All J&K Chess Association (AJCA), at Nek hotel, below Gummat Jammu, here today. He emerged winner after fighting with top seeded players. He surprised all the senior players and previous champions.

Earlier, five players tied at same five points after sixth and last round and he was declared winner considering tie break rule Buchloz system as first tie break was of head to head was not applicable in this case.

Deeba Gulzar won the gold in girls’ under-seven category while Laksh Chaudhary bagged the boys title in the same group. Similarly, in under-nine girls group, Radhika Palgotra won the first place and Saksham Sabarwal emerged winner in boys’ category. In girls under-11 event, Vridhi won the first place and boys gold went to Master Saransh.

The girls’ under-13 gold bagged by Amrita Gupta and Ayush Gupta emerged winner in boys category. In under-15 age group, Zabia Reyaz and Sanyam Gupta emerged winner in girls and boys category respectively.

First place in girls’ under-17 category went to Avantika Gupta while Chetan Raina won in boys’ category. In under-19 girls gold won by Ojaswani Mengi while Ashutosh Jamwal emerged winner in boys’ category. In senior women’s event, Versha Rani bagged the gold and Bishmah Afshan remained runners-up.

Today's rounds conducted by Vivek Bharti Gupta and AR Wani, who was chief arbiter. Raj Kumar was the chief organizer of this event.

Prizes among the winners of different age groups given away by president of the Association, Atul kumar Gupta and general secretary, Arshid Ahmad Kolu. Speaking to the gathering, Atul appreciated the enthusiasm among young players and hoped for some improved results from J&K team at the national level.

Prominent among others present were AR Wani, Baldev Raj and Taranvir Singh, Ashiq Ahmad, Vikas Nanda, Faisal Farooq, Raj Kumar and Khalid Amin.
