JAMMU, Jan 9: Disrupting the proceedings in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, Opposition members on Tuesday raised slogans against the Speaker and the Chairman for taking part in a dinner meeting of the PDP-BJP coalition government.
As soon as the House met for day’s proceedings, the opposition members from National Conference and the Congress stood up and raised the issue of Speaker Kavinder Gupta taking part in the dinner meeting hosted by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti last week as the Assembly met for the day.
The members alleged that the Speaker had lowered the sanctity of the House and resorted to protests seeking reply from him.
Opposition legislators Nawang Rigzin Jora, Ali Mohammed Sagar, PDF MLA Hakeem Mohammed Yaseen and CPI-M MLA M Y Tarigami reminded the Speaker that he was the presiding officer of the House and thus attending a meet of the coalition government was against the norms and ethics of the House.
The members created ruckus however the Speaker pacified them saying that he would not take part in any such meeting in future.
Meanwhile similar scene was witnessed in the Legislative Council too as the opposition members staged a walkout from the House over the Chairman attending the dinner meeting.
