Amid tension, Cross-LoC trade resumes after 3 days

49 trucks exchange sides at Chakan Da Bagh

POONCH, Jan 19: Amid tension between India-Pak at border, Cross LoC Trade was resumed here today after remain suspended for three Days after PAK army refused to open gates of Rahe Milan at Chakan Da Bagh.
Official Sources said a total of 49 vehicles exchange sides at Chakan Da Bagh here today. Sources said that Indian trader dispatched 30 trucks carrying Banana, Garlic and Grapes to their PAK counterparts while a total of 19 trucks carrying Dry dates, Almonds and herbs came to this side from PAK.
Sources said that Thirty Indian trucks reached trade centre this morning after proper frisking of all the trucks they all were dispatched to PAK.
There seems no limit of joy for Karamat Ullah whose cousin was returning to PAK this Monday but due to closure of Rahemilan he did not leave for PAK, he said me and my cousin was very happy he will return back to PAK this Monday he said there was a marriage in Kotli early next month and he was willing to attend the same and the closure of border creates a sense of dilemma in his mind and now he is happy. He thanked both governments for opening of this gate for trade once again after hostile relations and hoped that the gates will again open on this Monday.
This weekly cross-LoC bus service which was first launched in 2005 was suspended by PAK authorities after killing of seven PAK jawans in retaliatory firing by Indian Army in Poonch District.
Sardar Krishan Singh a senior office bearer of Traders Association said that our trader’s suffered lose worth crores of rupees and now they were in dilemma whether to participate in trade or not as the PAK Administration had taken a minor issue very serious,
He said previously they suffered losses when earlier the trade was suspended, It was very hard for us to participate in this trade, he said adding that we are still carry forward this trade for the sake of nation. He said we are participating in trade to carry forward the CBM’s but this Force full suspension of trade creates a sense of timidity among us.
He said now we are resuming it on the assurance of officers that our grievances will be redressed. Replying on an issue he said it take at least a week for normalizing the trade between both sides of divided state. He said governments must compensate the traders who face losses as the traders are carrying forward CBM’s for the sake of both nations.
