Suptt of central jail suspended

SRINAGAR, Feb 8: The state government today placed under suspension Hilal Ahmad Rather, superintendent of central jail Srinagar, in view of the recent militant attack on cops in SMHS hospital.
Two police men were killed and an arrested Pakistani militant, Naveed Jat alias Abu Hanzallah, who was being brought for medical check-up, escaped.
“Pending enquiry into the incident on February 6, 2018, at SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, leading to the death of the two constables and escape of a militant, Hilal Ahmed Rather, Superintendent, Central Jail, Srinagar is hereby placed under suspension, with immediate effect,” a government order issued by home department’s principal secretary RK Goyal said.
“The officer shall remain attached with Director General of Police, Prisons, till further order,” the order read.
Mukesh Kumar Kakar has been posted as new Superintendent of Central jail Srinagar.
“The services of Mukesh Kumar Kakar, Additional SP Police Component, Anantnag, are placed at the disposal of the Prisons Department with immediate effect. Consequent upon the above, Mukesh Kumar Kakar is posted as Superintendent, Central jail, Srinagar,” said government in an order issued by Goyal.
Naveed was earlier arrested by security forces in Kulgam district in June 2014.
Meanwhile, a picture of Naveed Jat has surfaced on the social media. Naveed and Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Saddam Padder of south Kashmir were seen together in a photo, carrying AK-47 rifles.
The photo in which both are seen wearing a smile and giving thumbs-up has gone viral on social media.
“After the picture surfaced on social media, we have started verifying it,” said a senior police official.
