J&K thrashes Chhattisgarh in opening Sub-Jr National Volleyball tie
JAMMU, Feb 8: Jammu and Kashmir defeated Chhattisgarh in opening group match in the 40th Sub-Junior National Volleyball Championship for (boys & girls) which began at Chirava, Rajasthan, on Thursday.

Earlier, Shabir Ahmed, Shahid Majeed, Umar Majeed and Pushpinder Singh remained in limelight for their superb display of spikes and blocks thus made it a straight 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-20) win against Chhattisgarh.

As per the reports reaching here, placed in group-D, J&K boys shall now meet opponents from Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand and Telangana in the league round.

Meanwhile, in girls section, J&K lost to Kerala in straight 3-0 (25-7, 25-13, 25-7) sets. Now, in their next outings, J&K girls shall meet Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar and Maharashtra in Pool-D.

The teams are accompanied by Mohd Tariq and Aashiq Hussain as boys and girls coaches respectively.

Patron-in-Chief Volleyball Association of J&K, Raj Daluja, President, Sidharth Daluja and other office bearers sent their good wishes to J&K boys team, manager and coach for excellent performance in the opening match. They also wished the boys and girls team for better performance in subsequent matches.

Shutdown against arrests in Shopian
SRINAGAR, Feb 8: A shutdown was today observed in Shopian against the arrests of two youth last night. Clashes occurred between protestors and security forces at Batapora area. The protesters pelted stones and the cops burst smoke shells and fired pellets. A youth was allegedly hit by pellets and was hospitalised.
