WSC Shakar Chiktan Lifts 10th CEC Ice Hockey Cup

JAMMU, Feb 8: Winter Sports Club Shakar Chiktan lifted the 10th CEC Ice Hockey Cup by defeating Friends Pashkum by 7 goals with the overall best performance of the Captain Shabir Shah later adjudged man of the match and won Rs 50,000 Prize money for the team.

The tournament was organized by District Youth Service and Sports Department at Khree Sultan Choo Ice Hockey Rink Kargil, in which 8 teams participated.

Meanwhile Asgar Ali of Friends Pashkum was adjudged as man of the Series.

The runner up team Friends Pashkum won the runner up trophy and prize money of Rs 30,000.

To inculcate sportsman spirit should be the main focus of organizing any sports event, the Chief Guest Advocate Mohammad Amir Acting CEC LAHDC Kargil told that the youths of Kargil will opt sports like Ice Hockey, Archery and Horse Polo as Profession so that they can earn a healthy living in future.

Now a days sports are one of the most lucrative professions and such sports will not only help youths to excel at national level but they can also represent at International level very easily, he added.

He informed that the LAHDC Kargil has special focus on making the event popular in the Country and keeping that in view the prize money has been increased to Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 and Rs 7,000 consolation prize to each participating team.

Advocate Mohammad Amir Congratulated the winner and runner up teams and assured the players to enhance the infrastructure facility for the players in Kargil.

Later he distributed medals and prizes amongst the winner and runner up teams. The Chief Guest also distributed Certificates amongst the participants of the recently held Basic Ice Hockey Camp at Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium.

On this occasion Advisor to CEC Haji Mohammad Shafi, SSP Kargil T Gyalpo, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Imteeyaz Ahmad Kacho, Dy SP Ishtiyaq Ahmad Kacho and other district officers and a large number of spectators were also present.

Shutdown against arrests in Shopian
SRINAGAR, Feb 8: A shutdown was today observed in Shopian against the arrests of two youth last night. Clashes occurred between protestors and security forces at Batapora area.
