SRINAGAR, Feb 16: After remaining closed for four consecutive days Srinagar Jammu national highway was reopened for one way traffic on Friday.
The officials at traffic control room revealed that one way traffic from Jammu towards Kashmir was restored on highway after the road was cleared off all the debris of landslides.
The officials said that all the stranded vehicles were allowed to move on highway towards Kashmir on Friday.
According to officials fresh traffic was also allowed to ply from Jammu towards Kashmir. Moreover, all the stranded vehicles were cleared today.
Pertinently, according to officials, around 2000 vehicles were left stranded on highway since past two days after the fresh landslides struck at some places on highway.
On Wednesday fresh landslides had resulted in blockage of road due to which authorities had to close down the road for vehicular traffic.
The 300 km long stretch which forms the only road link between Kashmir and the rest of the world, was closed on Monday following snowfall and rains across Kashmir valley.
Due to the accumulation of snow and landslides triggered by rains, the authorities had to shut the road for vehicular traffic.
According to traffic authorities over 2000 vehicles were stranded at various places on highway for past four days. The vehicles included supplier trucks and passenger vehicles also.
The people stranded on highway were pushed to huge inconvenience due to closure of the road.
The officials revealed that thousands of vehicles stranded from Nagrota to Ramban were allowed to move towards Kashmir today after four days.
"Road was cleared today and all stranded vehicles were allowed to move towards Srinagar. Even fresh traffic was allowed to ply from Jammu towards Kashmir. Luckily there were no landslides today and one way traffic was restored smoothly without any halt," an official said.
The officials revealed that two-way traffic shall ply on highway on Saturday.
"If weather remains conducive two way traffic shall be allowed to move on highway most probably on Saturday," a traffic official said.
