SRINAGAR, March 13: Opposition National Conference (NC) on Tuesday welcomed the decision of Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti of removing Dr Haseeb Drabu from her council of Ministers.
Drabu’s recent statement that Kashmir is ‘not a political but social issue’ created storm in political arena of the state prompting chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to take the harsh decision.
“Well what he said was condemned by every political party in one voice; he was the person who extended GST in Jammu and Kashmir. I think the decision taken by his party is good,” NC President and Parliamentarian, Dr Farooq Abdullah told reporters at party headquarters Nawa-i-Subh here.
While reacting as to whether he is satisfied with PDP’s decision, Farooq while taking u-turn in his archetypal manner said it was the party’s own decision with regards to its leader and he cannot comment on it.
The former Chief Minister asserted that Drabu’s statement that Kashmir is not a political issue but social one was condemnable which was accordingly condemned by him and party as well.
“It not about my satisfaction, it was his party’s decision how could I comment on that, his statement was condemnable hence me and my party condemned it. His party took the decision after realizing as to what has been happening,” he added.
Pertinent to mention here that Chief Minister and PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti sacked Dr Haseeb Drabu who represents Rajpora Pulwama assembly constituency as Finance Minister after the former made controversial statement about Kashmir during an event organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi on March 9.
“J&K is not a political issue as far as I can see. They have been barking up the wrong tree for last 50 or 70 years by talking about the politics of it; that the political situation has never improved. We seriously need to look at in terms of how it is a society that is in search for itself,” Drabu had said in New Delhi Friday last.
