Commerce College wins overall men’s championship ; Parade college claims women’s title

JAMMU, Mar 16: The 44th Inter-Collegiate Annual Athletic Meet for Men & Women was concluded at the University of Jammu here today.
The Registrar, University of Jammu Dr Meenakshi Kilam, who was the Chief Guest on the event, distributed prizes to the winners of various events on the last day of meet today.
Congratulating the medal winners and participants, Dr Kilam appreciated the efforts of the Directorate for conducting the event and students from various colleges of the Jammu division post-graduate department of the University for the enthusiastic participation.
She said that winning gracefully is important in sports but participating fully with a sportsman spirit is also equally important. She said there are many talented sportspersons and such events provide them an opportunity to showcase their talent.
Dr Kilam said that a lot of emphasis is given on sports in the University along with studies and it is proved by the fact that 44th Annual Inter-Collegiate Athletic Meet in being organized in the 49th year of the University.
Dr Kilam hoped that the Directorate of the Sports and Physical Education will play a pivotal role in bringing together the like minded people so that sports can be taken to greater heights not only in the University or the affiliated colleges but also in the entire region. She assured that the University will focus not only on the regular sports but also on the unconventional sports and hoped that the directorate will carry forward this mission of making it a centre of excellence.
Earlier speaking on the occasion, Organizing Secretary & Director, Directorate of sports & Physical Education, Dr Daud Iqbal Baba said that participants have exhibited the spirit of competition and enthusiasm and congratulated the winners and participants for making this event a great success. Dwelling on the details of the various events conducted during three days, Dr Baba said that 25 colleges participated wherein 21 teams participated in Men Section with 258 participants while 16 teams in women section with 121 participants respectively.
The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr Komal Nagar, Incharge Assistant Director, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education.
Earlier, SPMR College of Commerce won the overall men’s championship while GCW Parade claimed overall women’s title. Rajan Sharma of GGM Sc. College emerged as the best athlete in men section. Narmita Katoch of GWC Gandhinagar declared best Athlete in women’s section.
