Protests against Kathua rape and murder

SRINAGAR, April 16: Demanding justice in Kathua rape and murder case, people from different walks of life including lawyers, traders, students and government employees today hit streets to protest rape and murder of minor nomad girl.

Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA), Lal Chowk Traders Association, Medical Employees Union, All Ladakh Students Association Kashmir (ALSAK), students of central University Kashmir and law students took to the roads demanding justice.

Members of (HCBA) assembled at Jehangir Chowk here and held protest against SPO Deepak Khajuria and his partners in crime.

The protesting lawyers demanded action against the activists of right wing constituent Hindu Ekta Manch (HEM) for holding pro- rapist rally in Kathua. They also sought legal actions against members of Kathua Bar Association for protecting the accused.

“The rape and murder is a blot on humanity, all those who support and tried to shield the perpetrators are monsters. We have gathered here to extend our heartfelt sympathies with the family of victim who craves for justice,” they added.

Students of Central University of Kashmir (CUK) and Vitasta Law College Nowgam also hit streets to protest the gruesome act.

“This is a symbolic protest; the accused who committed the offense deserves death penalty. Those who supported them should also be brought to book,” said the CUK students.

Seeking justice for eight years old victim, law students at Vitasta Law College Nowgam while condemning the incident demanded capital punishment for the accused.

Lal Chowk Traders Association also staged demonstrations against what they termed barbaric act by men in uniform.

The protesting traders who had appeared at Press Enclave this afternoon demanded death to the accused who they claimed tarnished the chastity of poor innocent girl.

A candle light vigil was also organised by All Ladakh Students Association Kashmir at Press Enclave this evening to support justice for victim.

The protesting students from Leh and Kargil amid anti NC, PDP, Congress, BJP, RSS, Shiv Sena and HEM took out a protest rally from Lal Chowk to Regal Chowk.

“We really feel sorry for victim whose rapists and murderers are alive and enjoy support from communal forces. Our only demand is to punish the culprits like that of Damini Nirbhaya case,” said Mohammad Saleem President ALSAK.

Militants open fire in Shopian, SPO, civilian injured
ANANTNAG, Apr 16: A special police officer (SPO) and a civilian were injured after the suspected militants opened fire in Bongam area of southern Shopian town on Monday.
