Needs immediate medical treatment

SRINAGAR, May 3: Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) today said its incarcerated Chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah’s health has deteriorated to the extent her daughter fell unconscious after meeting her ailing father in jail.
Addressing a hurriedly press conference at latter’s Sanatnagar residence, DFP General Secretary alleged that Shah has been kept in a cell at Tihar Jail without providing any requisite medical treatment.
“Shah’s elder daughter who was accompanied by her mother fell unconscious to see her father whose health is deteriorating day by day in absence of medical treatment in Tihar jail. He has lost tremendous weight in a cell with visible dark circles around his eyes. He is not able to stand properly because of weakness and back ache,” Tari added.
He said Shabir Shah’s wife was allowed to meet her husband for 18 minutes only after waiting for at least five hours on the main gate and going through intense frisking.
Tari asserted that DFP Chairman according to her wife has been diagnosed with severe heart ailment with block in arteries.
“Shah’s wife’s repeated pleas to get him treated fell flat on deaf ears resulting further deterioration of health. He has been diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus/ Hypertension/ with Severe Heart ailment as diagnosed by undergoing various Tests like HUTT/ Holter/ Stress Thalium Scan at SafderjungHospital,” said he.
DFP leader said that Shah was not even allowed to take his regular medicines and since his health started deteriorating further it seems jail authorities took 5 more months to ensure his treatment.
“He has multiple Heart Blocks for which he requires Angiography followed by Angioplasty. But nothing has been done till date. Medical reports provided by Shabir Shah clearly say that expert doctors have advised immediate treatment,” he claimed.
Though Shah is seriously unwell but the family said his morale is very high. As per the family Shabir Shah said “31 years of jail could not break or weaken my resolve for freedom of Kashmir. I am as strong as I was in 1968 when I was first imprisoned at the age of 12.”
Tari said authorities in New Delhi were warned time and again that Shabir Shah needs immediate treatment.
“Shabir Shah was already suffering from many ailments when he was kidnapped from Srinagar to Delhi. Though Shabir Shah is a firm believer of political resistance however he is being punished by the political leadership of India. Now when his health condition has further deteriorated and has endangered his life, we stress upon the human rights organizations to come to the rescue of the “Prisoner of Conscience” before it is too late,” said he.
