BHADERWAH, May 9: Majority community Wednesday observed shutdown in Bhaderwah area of Doda district of Jammu region in protest against killings in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Shops, business establishments and some private schools belonging to majority community remained closed while government schools, offices and banks functioned normally. Traffic also remained unaffected due to the strike call. The call for shutdown was issued by Anjuman Islamia Bhadarwah(AIB).
President AIB, Pervaiz Ahmed Sheikh said government instead of pursuing dialogue unleashed a reign of arrest and killing spree. "Government is testing our patience and if any untoward thing happens in Chenab valley, none but government will be responsible for that,” he said. The authorities had made heavy deployment of forces personnel to thwart protests in and outside Bhaderwah town.
