Mobile internet snapped in several south Kashmir areas

SRINAGAR, JUN, 6: Train services remained suspended across south Kashmir on Wednesday following protests in several south Kashmir areas over the handing over of bodies of two local militants to their families.
The officials revealed that though in the morning few trains were scheduled towards Banihal from Srinagar. However, the service was immediately suspended on the directions of authorities in the aftermath of the protests witnessed in Kulgam, Pulwama, Awantipora and many other places.
The officials said that the service was suspended as a precautionary measure keeping in view the safety of the passengers.
Pertinently clashes were witnessed in Awantipora, Pulwama, Kulgam and several other areas where locals have been demanding the dead bodies of two local militants who were killed in an encounter in Tangdhar area of Uri sector on May 25.
Later in the day, bodies of the militants were handed over to their kin after exhumation.
"Train operations towards south Kashmir were suspended on Wednesday. The decision was taken on the directions of authorities as a security measure towards safety of the passenger travelling by train towards south Kashmir," a railway official at Nowgam railway station said.
"No train operated from Budgam-towards Anantnag and Qazigund area of south Kashmir since morning." he said.
The continued suspension of train service has lead to huge inconvenience to people travelling by train.
Meanwhile, mobile internet service was suspended in several areas of south Kashmir on Wednesday which included Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian.
The customer executives at various service providing companies in Kashmir revealed that on the directions from the law enforcing agencies mobile internet service was suspended in Awantipora, Kulgam, Pulwama Shopian and some other areas.
The state authorities had suspended the mobile internet service late Tuesday night following the protests as bodies of two local militants of Pulwama and Kulgam were exhumed and handed over to their families.
"Mobile Internet service has been suspended in some parts of South Kashmir as a security measure to thwart any rumour mongering," an official revealed.
