Cong wins Thiksey by-election
LEH (Ladakh), Jun 7: Tundup Gyatso of Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Thursday won the Thiksey Councillor seat of LAHDC, Leh by 110 votes by defeating Stanzin Chospel of BJP.

The much awaited result of the by-election for 14-Thiksay constituency of LAHDC, Leh held on June 4, 2018 was declared today after counting of votes which commenced this morning at Indoor Stadium, Leh. DC, Leh Avny Lavasa, ADC Moses Kunzang and other district officers on election duty were present during the counting.

Tundup Gyatso of Indian National Congress candidate won the seat by 110 votes as he polled a total 1163 votes while his nearest rival Stanzin Chospel of BJP polled 1054 votes.

Stanzin Phuntsog of National Conference and Zahoor-ul-Hassan Independent received 242 and 249 votes respectively. One postal ballet vote went in favour of INC, 3 votes in NOTA and 39 were rejected


On June 4 a total of 64.5 percent of polling was recorded at seven polling stations for 14-Thiksey constituency that include Nang, Rambirpur, Thiksay A, Thiksay B, Stakmo, Shey and Shey Yoknos. Out of

4,261 total voters comprising 2,176 males and 2085 female voters, 2,749 voters had exercised their voting franchise. Today, INC emerged as the winning party with their candidate Tundup Gyatso as the

new councillor for Thiksey constituency in the 5th LAHDC, Leh.

14-Thiksey Constituency by-election has been conducted due to the sudden demise of former Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo who was elected as Councillor Thiksay constituency for the 5th term of LAHDC, Leh.
