Blood stained syringes; empty vials inside MA Stadium’s washroom raise eyebrows

JAMMU, Jun 17: Although the State Sports Council is making all out efforts to give wings to the sports culture and the Ministry of Home Affairs has also sanctioned Rs 14.30 crore for giving push to the sports in the state, unfortunately, many eyebrows have been raised after a heap of blood stained syringes and empty vials were found lying abandoned near the washroom of the Indoor Complex of M A Stadium here.
The recovery of empty vials and syringes, few of them blood stained, abandoned behind the washroom of the Indoor Complex and on the ventilators inside the Maulana Azad Stadium, have raised question mark on the functioning of the department as well.
The pictures syringes and empty vials littered inside the premises of the stadium under the very nose of concerned authorities.
“The recovery of syringes and empty vials and that too from inside the premises, meant for sports activities is not only surprising but shocking,” sources told.
Sources said that there were not few syringes or empty vials but substantial in number were found, adding, “the authorities at the helm of affairs, must probe the matter and the motive behind.”
“Whether drugs are being consumed by someone inside the premises or outsiders are using that place for consuming the contraband or it is some other foul play? This must be investigated to ascertain the facts,” sources added.
They further added that it is really astonishing that how the vials, syringes, which are mostly used by the diabetic patients and some of them having blood stains, were found in such a prestigious institution.
Sources said that syringes being used to inject insulin by the diabetic patients are not available at medical shops without the medicine, which is not a costly affair, adding, “the druggists mostly, purchase a kit, throw the insulin and use syringes for injecting drugs.”
“It should not be taken lightly as it is a cause of concern for one and all,” Zorawar Jamwal, Chairman, Team Jammu told.
“If the drugs are being used by the players then it is really worrisome but if it is handwork of some non-players then those, who are guarding the premises or taking care of it, must be taken to task for it,” he asserted.
He however, termed it as alarming and added that check is must on this.
Notably, grant-in-aid amounting to Rs 14.30 crore has been sanctioned on June 12 for block level sports in Jammu and Kashmir by the Union Home Ministry.
The fund was sanctioned by the Union Sports Ministry under the ‘Khelo India’ scheme.
An amount of Rs 10 lakh per block will be spent under the scheme in all the 143 blocks of Jammu and Kashmir’s 22 districts, the Home Ministry said in a statement.
The central grant of Rs 14.30 crore will be used to provide soft support in terms of coaches, equipment, consumables, technical support, organising competitions, including boarding and lodging facilities, and travelling expenses for participants among others.
Meanwhile, Clean Sports Jammu and Kashmir Chairman Sudhir Kumar and General Secretary, Vikas Abrol and have demanded through probe against use of ban drugs by sports persons of state to enhance their performance at nationals and state level competitions.
Clean Sports J&K also urged the Secretary, Sports Council for the immediately posting of sports medicine specialists doctor at MA Stadium Complex and also sought vigilance probe in postings of dietation in place of doctors by the then Sports minister Imran Ansari. They have asked the Secretary that the said dietation posts at MA Stadium us charging hefty amount from the sports persons on prescribing diet chart to them.
The Clean Sports J&K Secretary, Vikash Abrol urged the Secretary Sports Council to immediate remove said dietation from MA Stadium and set up full fledged first aid centre for the sports persons.
