SRINAGAR, Jun 19: Welcoming the fall of PDP-BJP coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, common people have hoped that killings of innocent people woulod come down under the Governor’s rule. There were mixed reactions to the fall of the government after BJP pulled out of the coalition government and announced withdrawal of support to PDP.
“N N Vohra has the capability of restoring peace in the valley, we are glad by this recent development, coalition which has fallen apart is rather shocking after three years because it had been a formation between North Pole and South Pole which was eventually meant to break down. 2017 was a bloody year for Kashmir; there were civilian killings, what Kashmiris want is for the killing to be stopped.” says Akib Renzusha, a political activist while talking to KTNS as BJP-PDP alliance ends just days after the centre’s decision to resume anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
“People all around in Kashmir are celebrating the move on social media, some cafes are also offering discount to rejoice.” he added.
The three year old PDP-BJP political alliance unstable from the start yanked just days after the central government decided not to extend the Ramzan ceasefire on anti-terror operations after the saffron party decided to pull out leading to resignation of CM Mufti. Calling the partnership “untenable”, the BJP cited a rise in terrorism, violence, radicalization and the killing of Shujaat Bhukari as the reasons behind the move.
“We are expecting an increase in developments in education, infrastructure, health facilities which had been rather steady for the last three years. We’re looking forward to Governor Rule and have high hopes from it,” said Mohd. Shafi Zargar, talking to KTNS.
“(Inki wajah se halat aur khraab hi hogaye the, Kashmir dispute wahin ka wahin hai, log mar rahe hain) Situation has worsened in last three years, Kashmir is still disputed with no signs of peace, killings have not stopped. It’s a big relief for the people of Kashmir. It’s up to on Governor how he will handle the situation, he is a very educated man and he knows how to handle the conflict because of his experience.” said someone who wants to remain unnamed.
“Our first demand is to stop the killings in Valley by means of talks under any government. We welcome the decision hoping under Governor’s Rule killings would reduce.” says Mustafa.
Another person wanting to remain unknown commented,” I had high expectations from this political partnership which they didn’t deliver up to, but I am disappointed with the fallout.”
The big political step was taken in meeting chaired by BJP president Amit Shah who held a meeting today with party cabinet ministers, various office incharge bearers and inchargers in Jammu and Kashmir to discuss the political situation the state.
