Scarcity of drinking water in Peerbagh areas

SRINAGAR, Jul 18: The non-availability of drinking water in several areas of Peerbagh locality in Srinagar has pushed the inhabitants to immense trouble and hardships.
Lamenting on the Public Health and Engineering department (PHE) the residents of Jeelanabad locality of Peerbagh expressed their huge anger and anguish against the department for failing to provide portable drinking water in their areas for past several days.
The residents revealed that there was a complete shortage of drinking water in their area while PHE was not looking at their grievances despite repeated requests.
“There is an acute shortage of drinking water in our area. We have not received a single drop of water from past four days without knowing the reason. It is so ironical that we are being deprived of basic need of life. The PHE department have added to our woes in the scorching weather conditions. How can someone survive without drinking water," Mukhtar Ahmad a resident of Jeelanabad locality of Peerbagh said.
"We fail to understand why water supply has been stopped. PHE department has added to our miseries. We have to walk to other places to fetch drinking water,” said Khursheed Ahmed, a resident of Jeelanabad.
A delegation of residents requested the Public Health Engineering Department to look into the matter and adress their issue.
The residents alleged that despite repeated pleas to the concerned authorities nothing has been done so far.
“We contacted PHE officials however nothing has been done. We have been left to suffer. We fail to understand how can they stop the water supply to residential areas," residents said.
When contacted, assistant secretary PHE department said that there was some issue among the land dwellers at some places due to which water supply has been cut.
"We are sorting out the matter with the land dwellers. We hope withing a day or two the issue shall be resolved," he said.
“There is scarcity of drinking water in Peer Bagh area. We are trying our best to get the water supply restored," he said.
