Rashid, supporters detained during protest

SRINAGAR, Aug 9: Scores of Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) supporters and their leader, Er Abdul Rashid were taken into preventive custody after they tried to march Lal Chowk to protest PIL challenging Article 35A in the Supreme Court of India.
Led by independent MLA, Langate assembly constituency and AIP supreme, Er Rashid dozens of AIP supporters amid pro plebiscite slogans took out a protest rally to Press Enclave here demanding dismissal of the petition filed by RSS backed NGO which challenges constitutional legality of Article 35A.
Protesters also demanded to give rights to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to decide their future through referendum.
“Article 35A is shield which bars outsiders to buy property in Jammu and Kashmir, its protection is our prime responsibility, I would like to warn those who toils for abrogation of the Act not to test the patience of Kashmiri people,” said Er Rashid.
He said AIP’s stand on referendum is clear that people of Jammu and Kashmir should be given their right to decide their future according to United Nations Resolutions.
Rashid said Article 35A being constitutionally legal Act must not be tinkered with because such attempts will prove detrimental.
Rashid along with his supporters later tried to march towards Lal Chowk from Press Enclave. However, a posse of police deployed in advance detained them and lodged them at Kothibagh police station.
