United we stand divided we fall
Kashmir Times. Dated: 9/17/2018 11:58:25 PM
Dear Editor,
For understanding this beautiful quote, we have to dwell into the history of our freedom struggle. When we ponder into the history of our nation. We can clearly infer that it was the disunity among Indians which leads to slavery of our country under foreign oppressor. Indians have understood the cost of disunity when they were under the British rule. The Britishers took the advantage of our heterogeneous society of country. They found that people were divided among various caste, religious, regional and lingual groups with having princely states. Due to this division, the Britisher remained successful in capturing India and they have plundered the wealth of our country.
It is noteworthy to mention here that "First War Of Independence" was fought in 1857. But we failed to attain independence because the people from all communities have not participated in freedom struggle enthusiastically. This clearly shows that 'Unity is strength' and without unity there is no strength. But after this failure in 1857, people understood clearly that without unity they cannot overthrow the alien rule from India. Later on the people from all corners participated tirelessly and overthew alien rule from India.
Undoubtedly It was a struggle of heterogeneous society which evolved from the evolution of a multi-religious and multi-lingual identities, transformed into a society of enlightened minds and sober persons. Unluckily, we have lost that spirit of unity, love, compassion, brotherhood and communal harmony somewhere in present day India. We have to revive that same spirit once again to build a new and better India.
At present we are far away from the concept of unity. Our constitution makers bestowed us with the wealth of constitution. The preamble of our constitution clearly reveals that which type of country they had dreamt of. The need of the hour is that India needs to be saved from the vicious eyes of those who cultivate weeds of hatred, acerbity, animosity and bigotry.
