Slipper thrown at Nitish Kumar at JDU event in Patna, one arrested

PATNA, Oct 11(Agencies): A student protesting against reservation hurled a slipper at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday but it missed the target by a few metres.
According to reports, the youth hurled the slipper in the direction of the podium where Nitish was seated along with senior JD(U) leaders during an event in the state capital on Thursday.
Though the slipper did not reach the stage and landed among the gathering, the JDU workers and supporters slapped, punched and kicked the accused, who identified himself as Chandan – a student from Aurangabad.
The angry JDU supporters tore Chandan's clothes and his body bore bruise marks after he was thrashed by them.
Chandan was then whisked away by the police personnel present there.
The shocking incident took place when Kumar along with state JD(U) chief Vashishtha Narayan Singh and other party leaders were attending a 'Chhatra Samagam' (students congregation) which was organised by the JD(U) at Bapu Sabhagar auditorium on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan.
"I had registered my protest against the discriminatory reservation policy which helps even the better off among the SCs, STs and OBCs even as the poorest of the poor among the Dalits have been left to fend for themselves," Chandan shouted while he was being taken away by the police.
Bihar has witnessed a string of protests by anti-reservation activists in the recent past. Several Union ministers have been shown black flags and ink thrown on their vehicles at a number of places in the state.
