2 intruders, 3 jawans killed in Rajouri encounter

MENDHAR/RAJOURI, Oct 21: Two heavily armed Pak intruders and three jawans were killed and another suffered grave injuries in a fierce encounter on the Line of Control (LoC) in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district on Sunday afternoon.
Army also claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid by eliminating Pak intruders.
Defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand stated that this afternoon at about 1.45 PM, army in Sunderbani sector had a fierce encounter with heavily armed Pakistani intruders very close to the Line of Control. However in encounter, army lost its three jawans while one jawan sustained grievous injuries.
“The patrol killed two intruders and recovered warlike stores including two AK-47 Rifles. Immediate reaction from other posts effectively cordoned the area and the search and destroy operation was conducted. While fighting the intruders, three soldiers of 8 JAK LI unit attained martyrdom while one soldier suffered grievous injuries. The injured has been air evacuated to Command Hospital, Udhampur and is stable,” said Lt Col Anand.
All the deceased jawans belonged to Jammu region. They were identified as Havildar Kaushal Kumar, resident of village Deeng, Nowshera (J&K), Lance Naik Ranjeet Singh resident of village Gam of Doda district and Rifleman Rajat Kumar Basan, resident of Pallanwala (J&K).
Havildar Kushal is survived by his wife Naresh Kumari, Lance Naik Ranjeet Singh is survived by his wife Shimu Devi while Rifleman Rajat is survived by his father Rattan Lal. He said the area near the encounter site was cordoned off and a “search-and-destroy” operation was in progress till late evening.
In the meanwhile, sources preferring anonymity stated that slain intruders are believed to be members of a Border Action Team (BAT) comprising Pakistan army jawans.
The infiltration bid triggering fierce encounter and resulting into fatal casualties occurred a day after the declaration of result of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) polls, which were peacefully conducted.
