`Farooq should sustain position on K-resolution’

SRINAGAR, Nov 8: Former Union Minister Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz Thursday stated that National Conference president and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah should, in public interest, sustain his position on resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
Commenting upon Farooq’s statement advocating Ireland settlement model for resolution of Kashmir issue, Soz said for him NC president’s assertion was reiteration that ‘Kashmir is a dispute and needs to be resolved politically.”
“I have a pleasant situation in my mind as for Dr Abdullah’s political statement made by him at Uri, the other day. For me, it means that Dr. Abdullah has publicly reiterated his stand that Kashmir is a dispute and needs to be resolved politically,” he said.
Soz stated, “More than his proposed solution, I would suggest, first of all, that he must stick to a position after due process of thinking and then lead his party successfully to the ‘Achievable Goal.’ As for his proposal i.e. the Irish Model, that is debatable as in many ways, Irish model doesn’t seem to offer a settled situation of solution. I would rather propose Musharraf-Vajpayee-Manmohan Formula as the best course available to India and Pakistan for settlement of Kashmir dispute.”
“But, then, the moot point is that Government of India must give up its policy of repression in Kashmir and come forward for a purposeful dialogue which it can initially open with the Joint Resistance Leadership and then the dialogue can move to the mainstream. That seems to be a workable and safe
course,” Soz said.
