Jawan killed, another hurt in Pak sniper fire in Poonch

MENDHAR, Nov 12: On a day, the Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat described “sniping as a regular affair on the border”, another army jawan was killed while a jawan sustained injuries on Monday in a Pak sniper fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of Mendhar in Poonch district.
This was the fourth sniping incident in a row in past four days on the LoC.
As per initial details, both the soldiers were posted at a forward post along LoC where they sustained injury in Pak sniper fire and later one of them succumbed.
Defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said, “At about 05.15PM today, Pakistan army resorted to an unprovoked ceasefire violation in Krishna Ghati sector (Mendhar) on the Line of Control (LoC) resulting in one soldier getting martyred and another critically injured.”
“In the incident, Lance Naik Antony Sebastian KM was critically injured and succumbed to gunshot wound injuries to fire from across the border. Havildar Mari Muthu D also sustained gunshot wounds and was critically injured in the firing. Immediate resuscitation and medical aid was provided to the soldier and has been evacuated to Military Hospital, Poonch,” he said.
“Lance Naik Antony Sebastian KM, 34, belonged to village-Manakunnam, post-Udaymperoor, tehsil- Kannayanur, district Ernakullam, Kerala and is survived by his wife, Anna Dayana Joseph. Lance Naik Antony Sebastian KM was a brave and sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty. Indian rmy has retaliated strongly and effectively on Pakistan army posts. The martyrdom of the Indian army soldier will not go in vain,” Lt Col Anand said.
Yesterday an army jawan was killed in Pak sniper fire in Kalal area of Nowshera sector in Rajouri district.
Naik Gosavi Keshav Somgir, manning a forward post in Kalal area of Nowshera sector was critically injured due to fire from across the border Sunday afternoon and later succumbed to his gunshot injuries.
On Saturday also, an army soldier was killed in Pak sniper fire on the Line of Control in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district. Three jawans were also injured on Saturday as Pakistani troops had resorted to repeated ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) in Pallanwalla and Sunderbani sectors in Jammu and Rajouri districts, prompting strong retaliation from the Indian side. Heavy exchange of fire has escalated tension on the LoC.
In the past four days, army incurred four fatal casualties due to sniping from across the border in Rajouri and Jammu districts. Four soldiers were also injured in ceasefire violations by Pakistan. While on November 9, an army porter was killed in Pak sniper fire in Akhnoor sector.
