Infiltration bid foiled; Pak intruder killed in Akhnoor

JAMMU, Nov 13: The army Tuesday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid by gunning down a heavily-armed Pakistani militant in an encounter along Pallanwala area on the Line of Control (LoC) in Akhnoor sector here.
The infiltration bid came after a series of ceasefire violations by Pakistan which left three army personnel and a porter dead and three BSF personnel injured since Friday.
Defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand stated, “In an encounter a heavily armed Pakistani terrorist has been eliminated in Akhnoor sector on Indian side of the International Border, at about 1350 hours today.” “The ambush party killed one terrorist and recovered warlike stores which included five pistols, ten pistol magazines, 60 bullets of pistol, one AK assault rifle, two AK rifle magazine with 234 rounds of ammunition, fifteen hand grenades and twelve fuses for IEDs. The entire area was cordoned off and search and destroy operation is still in progress,” Defence spokesperson said.
“This huge cache has scuttled the nefarious plans of the terrorists outfit to derail the peace and harmony in the region and disrupt the forthcoming Panchayat elections in the state. The timely intercept of the intrusion of the terrorists with the cache of arms, ammunition and other war like stores has thwarted any possible untoward incident, planned by the terrorist during the scheduled elections in the state,” said Lt Col Anand.
He said that the Indian army was carrying out relentless and robust anti-infiltration operations in the state to break the backbone of terrorism and nip the designs of anti national elements and the enemy to foment trouble South of the Pir Panjal ranges in Jammu & Kashmir.
An army porter was killed by a Pakistani sniper along the sector on Friday followed by similar attacks from across the border in Sunderbani and Nowshera sectors of Rajouri and Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch over the past three days which left three army personnel dead. Three BSF personnel were also injured in ceasefire violations by Pakistan.
