Historic Day for Varanasi

Dear Editor
It was a historic day for India when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and unveiled an inland port in Varanasi on the Ganga River and received India's first container vessel that sailed from Haldia, Kolkata on the inland waterway. It was constructed as the first of the four multi-modal terminals on the River Ganga, as part of the World Bank-aided Jal Marg Vikas project of the Inland Waterways Authority of India. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 5,369.18 crore, which will be equally shared between the Government of India and the World Bank.
This project is aimed at developing the stretch of the river between Varanasi and Haldia in West Bengal, for navigation of large vessels weighing up to 1,500 tonnes to 2,000 tonnes. I am sure this inland waterways project will help to promote a cheap and environment-friendly means of transportation. Modi deserves a big thumbs up and appreciation for this immense project. At last, Modi bestowed upon Varanasi a huge gift, from where he won the seat of MP.
