Fresh snowfall in higher reaches, rains in plains

SRINAGAR, Nov 14: Fresh snowfall occurred on upper reaches of Kashmir on Wednesday while rains were witnessed in most of the plain areas.
As inclement weather continued in Kashmir valley on Wednesday the officials at state meteorological department revealed that weather was likely to improve from Thursday onwards.
The Met officials said that snowfall was recorded in higher reaches of Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Zojila Pass, Mughal Road and Pahalgam area in south Kashmir.
"The inclement weather is likely to continue till Thursday. Weather will witness an improvement from Thursday onwards," spokesperson at Met department said.
Meanwhile, the Met officials said that there avalanche warning continued for the higher reaches of the state for next 24 hours.
The officials said that avalanche danger stayed for areas of Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Badgam, Anantnag and Kulgam districts.
"There exists a moderate avalanche warning for Leh and Kargil districts of Kashmir division also," Met official said.
Pertinently, Kashmir valley has been witnessing snowfall in higher reaches and rains in plains for the past two days.
There has been an early onset of winter season this year with occurrence of snowfall in the beginning of the month of November only.
Meanwhile, there was a considerable drop in maximum and minimum temperature at several places on as cold wave prevailed across valley on Wednesday.
"Srinagar recorded a day temperature of 5.2, degree Celsius on Wednesday. The maximum temperature in Pahalgam settled at 1.3 degrees Celsius," Met official said.
Met department revealed that Gulmarg recorded a temperature of minus 3 degrees.
