Renaming spree is unilateral
Kashmir Times. Dated: 11/15/2018 11:26:14 PM
Dear Editor,
It is fact that after independence there have been name changing in few states and cities, like Orissa to Odisha, Pondicherry to Puducherry, Madras to Chennai, Bombay to Mumbai Bangalore to Bengaluru etc keeping in view the sentiments of the state's people and local language. But now the BJP government is increasingly stoking this trend of changing the name of historical places and institutions unilaterally to suit their own political vested interests not to satisfy the people's sentiments of belongings locality. As the same thing is happening in West Bangal case that centre constantly has been delaying to change its name for long ago while the state has repeatedly demanded to change the state's name. This is because BJP wants it to do as per its willing and state Assembly's resolution does not suit BJP's desirous.
